What do Atom and RSS mean?

Atom and RSS are formats for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, news-oriented community sites and personal weblogs.

Atom and RSS-aware programs called news aggregators are popular on the web. A news aggregator can help you keep up with content from your favorite websites by checking their Atom and RSS feeds, then displaying new items from each of them.

Some popular news aggregator programs are NewsGator, NetNewsWire and AmphetaDesk. Certain web browsers, such as Firefox, have plug-ins that work to keep track of feeds.

For the record, AM850.com uses the following versions of feeds:
Atom 0.3
RSS 2.0

For more information on how to utitlize feeds, you should consult the manuals for the specific news aggregators or browser plug-ins.
